Schools are keen to help parents protect children from unscrupulous individuals and practices while online.

EASTER Ross Schools have joined forces to help parents keep their children safe on the internet and when using social media.

In recent years, efforts to protect children from unwanted advances from seemingly friendly strangers on social media platforms and some of the darker sides of the internet have been intensified.

Internet safety sessions and games led by a Highland Council expert are to be provided to interested parents and guardians of pupils attending Invergordon schools.

South Lodge Primary School Principal David Hayes-MacLeod said: “We have had issues in the past with children who may not have been as safe as possible on the internet and specifically on social networks.

“We try to teach them about the dangers of, for example, certain gaming platforms that have chat features and not to share personal details or images with people they don’t know, however ‘nice’ they may be. they seem to be.

“I am also aware that parents are sometimes at a loss as to what they can do or what to be careful of and so I am delighted to say that the schools in Invergordon have all come together and we have managed to get time to Robert Quigley who is a Highland Council Collaborative Lead specializing in digital education.

“He has set up two virtual sessions that you are all welcome to attend to talk to you about some issues and equip you with the tools you need to keep your kids safe at home on their devices. I urge you all to really try and attend these sessions because I know Robert is an expert in this field.”

The sessions take place on February 9 and 16 at 9 p.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes.

Links to sessions will be sent later.

Mr Hayes-MacLeod added: ‘Please try to keep this time free to attend as the information will be extremely valuable.’
