Invergordon manager Gary Campbell looks to improve against Halkirk United as the North Caledonian League title draws closer

Invergordon are potentially one win away from being crowned North Caledonian League champions, but manager Gary Campbell is taking nothing for granted ahead of Halkirk United tomorrow.

Halkirk are one of two teams that could yet deny Invergordon the crown, with Loch Ness also still in contention, but the Recreation Grounds side are in pole position at the top of the table.

If they can take three points against Halkirk and Loch Ness fail to beat St Duthus at Tain, the title will go to Invergordon.

If that is to happen, however, Invergordon will need to improve on their previous performances at Halkirk, where they lost 4-1 in the league and 3-1 in the Coupe du Nord-Calédonie.

“It’s in our hands and we’ve given ourselves a chance to win the league,” Campbell explained.

“It’s the most important thing, so it’s nice. I hope we can take it.

“It’s a huge game for both teams – and we didn’t play well against them.

“We will have to compete a little bit better. No disrespect to Halkirk, but we didn’t play well the two times we faced them, so we know we’ll have to be at our best to beat them. They are the form team in the league.

“So if we want to win the league, we have to go out and get a result against them on Saturday.

“We shouldn’t need any more motivation now that we’re top of the league.

“We know what’s at stake, so hopefully we’re ready to take advantage of it.

“We should be pretty excited, and I hope it shows.”

Invergordon will have to make late decisions on a few players who received knocks in their 1-0 win at County Nairn A last time out.

Elsewhere, Alness United will be looking to put more distance between them and the bottom of the table when they host Orkney, with the bottom two of Thurso and Bonar Bridge in action against each other.
