Invergordon football team start season with win at Dumfries


The HIGHLAND Stags kicked off their British American Football Association’s NFC 2 North campaign by winning 33-12 at Dumfries Hunters on Sunday.

The Highland Stags defeated the Dumfries Hunters to become Saltire Division Champions.

James Hudson, Mark Betts, Stephen McMeechan and Kyle Cocker all starred for the Invergordon outfit in an impressive start to the season to move them to the top of the conference.

They are one of five teams playing in NFC 2 North along with Aberdeen Roughnecks, Dunfermline Kings and Clyde Valley Blackhawks along with the Dumfries Hunters.

In the weekend’s other conference game, the Aberdeen Roughnecks defeated the Clyde Valley Blackhawks 13–6 at Wishaw.

The Highland Stags now have a week off before their second game when they take on the Dunfermline Kings at the Naval Grounds, Invergordon on Sunday November 24.

The Dunfermline Kings start their season this Sunday against the Clyde Valley Blackhawks in Fife.

The club also hold training sessions at Merkinch Nature Reserve in Inverness. The Highland Stags were crowned Saltire Division Champions in 2021 and are participating in NFC 2 North for the first time.
